Gps4cam review4/11/2023 ![]() ![]() Soon, there are GPS logger that can be plugged into the camera directly, and have the GPS information tagged onto the photo as soon as it is taken. Some notable GPS logger were those from Holux, and Sony does have some nice GPS kit as well which is still available. Very nice idea, only that the device is not that cheap, and it’s an additional item for you to worry about on your trip. The idea is that the information can be taken out into a computer and with a synchronization software, apply the GPS coordinate into the photos, by comparing the meta data of the time a photo was taken, with the time the GPS information were logged. These accessories are GPS logger, runs on batteries, and periodically logs the GPS and time information into internal memory. Nevertheless, this was the most economic method before the camera and accessories manufacturers begin to take note of this need on the market.Īccessories manufacturers noticed the trend and begin making accessories that allow photographers to tag their photos. Though workable, its a labour intensive method, not to mention you will need to have good memory if you were back from a long trip with thousands of photos to tag. One manual tagging method that I used before is from Flickr. This is done only at then end of the post processing workflow. There were about 3 methods that I know to tag the photos.Īs the name implies, tagging is done by using a software that brings up a map interface (typically relied on Google maps)for you to pin point the location where you taken those photos. It is kind of cool as software and services begin to appear which allow viewing your photos by location on a map, instead of by albums which you organize by yourself. The idea of is to embed the longitude and latitude position into the metadata of the photos, so that you can lookup where the photo were taken. Now if I could just manage to get back to New Zealand sometime soon.Back when I was very active in photography, geo tagging photos was a very new concept. The next time I go back I’d like to do something similar it’s hard to imaging a better opportunity for a landscape photographer. I’d taken about fifteen hundred images and seen many things I never imagined. new zealand galleryĪbout three hours after leaving we returned to the airport. That’s invaluable especially when I’m in areas I’ve never been before and want to review it later. So I ended up with exact locations of all our landings. It does indeed because it uses the GPS receiver in the phone. I say it was a happy miracle because I wasn’t sure if it worked out of cell tower range. I have an app on my iPhone called “gps4cam” that tracks GPS coordinates and then syncs them up with the photos using the image timestamp. How I know where I was seemed nothing short of a happy miracle. At other stops he’d cut the engine so that we had a little more time to explore and compose shots. ![]() The excursion was based on engine time so on some stops we’d jump out while the pilot kept the engine running, this was one such stop as the pilot was still at the controls up on the right. We made so many stops I can hardly remember them all save for the photos. Daily Image Slopes of Mount Bonpland in New Zealand We started early with subzero temps high up on the peaks and as the morning progressed and we headed to lower elevations we were peeling off the layers. It was one of the last stops before heading back to the airport. This location is above the northern tip of Lake Wakatipu. This is another image I took from the slopes of Mount Bonpland in New Zealand.
